Open Water certification required. Designed for certified divers who have not dived for an extended period, typically six months or more. All passengers must come to the agency the day before the tour for equipment fitting, between 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
Overview
For certified divers who have been out of the water six months or more. A full skills review with an instructor, then two 45-minute dives at Darwin Bay and the Carawa wreck.
A refresh dive, or scuba review, is for certified divers out of the water six months or more. It rebuilds skills and confidence under supervision before more demanding dives.
A certified instructor or dive guide covers dive theory, safety procedures, equipment setup and underwater communication. You then review mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control and emergency procedures in confined water, a pool or shallow bay.
Check-in at the agency at 8:00 a.m., Muelle Acuario I at 8:15 a.m. to meet the instructor. First dive at Darwin Bay: about 45 minutes at 10 to 18 meters, visibility 8 to 25 meters, with sea lions, reef sharks, batfish, rays, pufferfish, barracuda, turtles, starfish, moray eels, lobsters and octopus possible. Snacks, drinks and about an hour of surface interval follow.
Fifteen minutes away is Carawa, a ship that sank roughly a hundred years ago carrying goods to mainland Ecuador, now covered by a large reef. Divers descend a line, circle the wreck and return to it. This dive also runs about 45 minutes at 12 to 16 meters. Port around 1:00 p.m., depending on ocean conditions.

Good to know
Itinerary subject to change at the discretion of the Galapagos National Park and your dive instructor, depending on ocean conditions. Water temperature January to July 23 to 25 C, August to December 18 to 22 C. Bring sunscreen, cap, towel, sunglasses, water bottle and personal items. Divers with their own gear may leave it at the agency the day before.
