Overview

The fumaroles and sulfur deposits on the flank of Sierra Negra, in a dry tropical landscape of birds, tortoises and iguanas.

The draw here is the landscape itself: steaming fumaroles and the yellow sulfur deposits that give the site its name, on the flank of Sierra Negra.\n\nTemperatures run around 16 C and the weather is changeable, so come prepared. This is dry tropical country, home to birds, tortoises and iguanas, along with introduced cattle and pigs. A permanent programme removes introduced plants such as guava so the island's native and endemic vegetation can recover.
