Overview
An afternoon in the green interior of Santa Cruz: the two collapsed craters at Los Gemelos, a walk inside a lava tunnel, and giant tortoises in the open on a highland ranch.
Pick-up from your hotel at 14:30 for the drive up from the coast into the humid highland forest.
First stop is Los Gemelos (Twin Craters), two large volcanic collapses ringed by Scalesia forest. Next are the lava tunnels, formed thousands of years ago by old volcanic flows.
The last stop is a private ranch where giant tortoises roam free, and you watch them up close in their own habitat among farmland and highland vegetation. Return to Puerto Ayora at approximately 17:30.
