Overview
Four to five hours out of Puerto Villamil to the lava arches of Los Tuneles, with a first stop at Roca Union in open water for boobies, pelicans and sea lions.
4 to 5 hours from Puerto Villamil around the lava tunnels and their wildlife, with the option of getting into the water.
First stop is Roca Union, a rock in open water used by pelicans, Nazca boobies and blue-footed boobies, with the occasional sea lion resting on it.
A further 45 minutes of navigation reaches Los Tuneles, where a volcanic eruption left a series of arches above the water. Access is by boat, with snorkeling and swimming in the clear water.
The area is subtropical and dry, averaging 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, with desert vegetation, mainly cactus, palo santo and algarrobo, over lava of different types and colours.
